The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their late-game heroics, winning their fifth consecutive home game in walk-off fashion, this time on a Cody Bellinger home run in the 10th inning for a 5-4 victory Wednesday over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks.
It was the second home run of the game for Bellinger, who has 29 on the season to give him the Dodgers' record for most homers in the first half. His home run in the second inning tied the club's first-half record previously held by Gil Hodges and Duke Snider.
The game-winning shot into the seats in right-center came off D-backs right-hander Yoan Lopez (1-2). Dodgers right-hander Joe Kelly (3-3) pitched a scoreless 10th inning to earn the victory.
It was the first time a team had five consecutive home victories in walk-off fashion since the 2004 Oakland Athletics. Four of those Dodgers' walk-off victories have come on home runs. It was the Dodgers' seventh walk-off victory this season and their eighth consecutive home victory overall.
The Dodgers tied the game 4-4 in the ninth inning on an RBI single from rookie Matt Beaty off right-hander Greg Holland. Los Angeles then loaded the bases with one out against right-hander Yoshihisa Hirano, but rookie Alex Verdugo hit into an inning-ending double play.
The Diamondbacks had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth on Carson Kelly's home run to center field off Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen.
Arizona had tied the game 3-3 in the seventh inning on back-to-back two-out hits, the first a ground-rule double from Jarrod Dyson, followed by an RBI single from Ketel Marte.
Christian Walker hit a home run for the Diamondbacks, giving him 15 on the season, five of which have come against the Dodgers. It was Walker's second home run of the season against Dodgers starter Walker Buehler.
Buehler, who was named to the National League All-Star team Sunday, gave up three runs on nine hits over seven innings with no walks and nine strikeouts.
Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly settled down after his rough second inning to retire the last 12 batters he faced. Kelly gave up three runs on six hits over six innings, with no walks and two strikeouts.
