Rays 3, Angels 0: Yunel Escobar belted a solo homer and Chris Archer pitched 5 2/3 effective innings as visiting Tampa Bay posted its third win in four games.

Escobar also had two singles to go along with his third blast of the season while James Loney and Evan Longoria each added an RBI base hit for the Rays. Archer (3-2) allowed only two singles, walked five and struck out five to win for the first time in five starts and Grant Balfour pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save.

Jered Weaver (4-3) yielded two runs on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts in seven frames as his four-game winning streak came to an end. Erick Aybar, Albert Pujols, Howie Kendrick and Efren Navarro each had a single for the Angels, who were shut out for the first time this season.

Weaver allowed only one hit and one walk before Escobar drove an 0-2 pitch over the center-field wall with two outs in the fifth inning to open the scoring. Archer loaded the bases with walks after recording two outs in the fifth, but he got Pujols to ground into a fielder’s choice to end the threat.

Longoria opened the seventh with a walk, stole his first base of the season and scored on Loney’s single off the right-field wall to double the lead. Longoria’s first-pitch RBI single in the eighth padded the lead while Juan Carlos Oviedo, Jake McGee and Joel Peralta bridged the gap to Balfour.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Escobar is 6-for-10 in his career against Weaver with a pair of RBIs. … Angels CF Mike Trout was 0-for-1 with three walks after his walk-off three-run homer Thursday in the series opener. … Rays RHP Alex Cobb (oblique) is scheduled to make a rehabilitation start Saturday with Class-A Charlotte against visiting Clearwater. He is expected to throw five innings or 75 pitches.
