Yankees 4, Angels 3: Brian Roberts belted a go-ahead home run with two outs in the ninth inning off Ernesto Frieri and visiting New York pulled even in the three-game series.

Hiroki Kuroda pitched into the eighth inning and David Robertson retired the Angels in the ninth for his fifth save. Shawn Kelley (1-2) received the win despite allowing Albert Pujols’ game-tying RBI in the eighth after Mike Trout tripled off Kuroda with two outs.

Roberts answered in the ninth with his first homer this season off Frieri (0-3), spoiling a strong outing by Angels starter C.J. Wilson, who yielded three runs on seven hits while throwing 125 pitches over eight innings. Pujols had two hits for the Angels, who have lost three of their last five games.

The Angels took an early lead with two unearned runs in the third before New York tied the game in the fifth against Wilson. Yangervis Solarte and Brett Gardner began the inning with consecutive singles, Roberts followed with an RBI single, and Gardner scored on Jacoby Ellsbury’s double-play grounder.

Alfonso Soriano put New York ahead 3-2 in the eighth with an RBI single, and Kuroda retired nine in a row before Trout snapped an 0-for-12 skid with his triple to the right-center field wall. Kuroda allowed three runs (one earned) while striking out eight over 7 2/3 innings for the Yankees, who won for the second time in their last seven games.
