Angels 8, Marlins 2: Albert Pujols went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Matt Shoemaker allowed two hits over seven scoreless innings as Los Angeles cruised past visiting Miami.

Mike Trout had three hits, drove in a run and scored twice for the Angels, who recorded 16 hits and moved one game ahead of Oakland in the American League West. Shoemaker (13-4) won his fourth straight start while striking out six to help the Angels bounce back from a 7-1 loss in Monday’s series opener.

Howie Kendrick put the Angels on the board in the first with an RBI single off Nathan Eovaldi (6-9), who permitted six runs on 10 hits over 3 1/3 innings. Eovaldi fell to 1-5 with a 6.11 ERA in eight starts since the All-Star break for Miami, which fell four games behind San Francisco for the second National League wild-card spot.

David Freese went 3-for-4 and helped spark the Angels’ five-run fourth inning as he doubled with one out and scored on Efren Navarro’s single. Eovaldi was pulled after allowing the first six batters in the inning to reach base, and Pujols greeted Sam Dyson with a two-run single up the middle to push the lead to 6-0.

The Angels added a run in the fifth and moved ahead 8-0 on Hank Conger’s RBI single in the seventh. Los Angeles shortstop Erick Aybar went 2-for-4 with two runs scored to extend his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games, including six straight multi-hit contests.

GAME NOTEBOOK: OF Josh Hamilton was the only player in the starting lineup without a hit for the Angels, who improved to 66-12 when scoring at least four runs. … Miami C Jarrod Saltalamacchia extended his hitting streak to eight games with an RBI double in the ninth. … The Angels designated LHP Wade LeBlanc for assignment and purchased the contract of RHP Yoslan Herrera from Triple-A Salt Lake.
