Nationals 4, Marlins 3: Jayson Werth knocked in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly as visiting Washington scored three times in the eighth inning to snap a tie and held on to salvage the finale of a three-game series.
Ian Desmond added a two-run double two batters after Werth and Anthony Rendon had an RBI in the first for the Nationals. Tanner Roark (11-6) struck out seven while allowing one run on three hits over seven innings to take over the team lead in victories and Drew Storen gave up two runs in the ninth before notching his first save.
Giancarlo Stanton homered and Adeiny Hechavarria had a two-out RBI double in the ninth for the Marlins, who saw their season-high, six-game winning streak come to an end after Reed Johnson bounced into a fielder's choice with two outs and two on. Miami starter Brad Hand (2-3) yielded three runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts in seven-plus innings to suffer his first loss in three outings.
Pinch-hitter Scott Hairston doubled to lead off the eighth and moved to third on Denard Span’s bunt single before Werth lifted his sacrifice fly to left field to score pinch-runner Nate McLouth for a 2-1 lead. Adam LaRoche walked and stole second before Desmond lined an A.J. Ramos pitch to left field to plate two more with two outs.
Span walked, stole second on a pickoff attempt and scored on Rendon’s double into the left-field corner in the first inning to give the Nationals a lead. Jordany Valdespin registered the Marlins' first hit in the fourth, launching a 3-2 fastball into the second deck in right field to tie the game at 1-1.
