Marlins 13, Dodgers 3: Anthony DeSclafani struck out seven over six strong innings to win his major league debut and knocked in two runs as visiting Miami rolled over Los Angeles to salvage the finale of their three-game series.
Ed Lucas, Reed Johnson and Jeff Mathis homered while Giancarlo Stanton recorded a double and two singles to extend his hitting streak to 16 games for the Marlins, who snapped a five-game slide. DeSclafani (1-0) allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk as Miami produced season highs in runs and hits (17).
Yasiel Puig doubled in a run to stretch his hitting streak to 14 games and Carl Crawford belted a solo homer for the Dodgers. Paul Maholm (1-4) gave up 10 runs (five earned), 11 hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings as Los Angeles fell to 9-13 at home.
The Marlins loaded the bases with one out in the second inning before DeSclafani’s high bouncer eluded second baseman Dee Gordon for an error, allowing two runs to score. Christian Yelich followed with a sacrifice fly, Lucas drilled a two-run blast into the left-field seats and Jeff Baker’s infield hit knocked in another run for a 6-0 lead.
Johnson hammered a two-run homer to left-center off Maholm and Mathis swatted a three-run blast over the right-field fence off Chris Perez in the fourth inning as Miami extended its advantage to 12-0. DeSclafani, a University of Florida product, singled home a run in the sixth for his first major-league hit.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Marlins signed LHP Randy Wolf to a one-year contract Wednesday, and the veteran allowed one run over three innings to notch his first career save. Wolf was 5-1 with a 4.50 ERA at Triple-A Reno. … Los Angeles C A.J. Ellis returned to the lineup for the first time since April 5 after arthroscopic knee surgery and went 0-for-4. … Dodgers C Drew Butera pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning with a strikeout.
