Rangers 4, Astros 3: Rougned Odor hit a three-run triple to support another solid start by Derek Holland as host Texas took the opener of the three-game series.
Guilder Rodriguez recorded his first career RBI on a go-ahead single in the seventh for the Rangers, who have won nine of their last 10. Holland (2-0) allowed two earned runs in seven-plus innings as his ERA climbed to 1.31 in five starts since returning from knee surgery.
Jose Altuve remained hot with an RBI double for Houston, which still leads the season series 11-6. Nick Tropeano (1-2) was tagged with the loss in his third career start after giving up four runs and five hits in 6 2/3 frames.
Two singles and a walk loaded the bases in the third for Odor, who laced a triple into the left-center field gap to make it 3-0. An RBI groundout by Matt Dominguez got the Astros on the board in the fifth and Altuve's double and a key error highlighted Houston's two-run rally to tie it in the sixth.
A hit batter and a wild pitch in the seventh set things up for Rodriguez, whose base hit to center put Texas up 4-3 and chased Tropeano. After Holland let the first batter reach in the eighth, Roman Mendez finished the frame and Neftali Feliz stranded a man at second in the ninth for his 12th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The 31-year-old Rodriguez recorded his first career hit with a single in the third ahead of Odor's triple. ... Texas is 10-6 under interim manager Tim Bogar after going 53-87 under Ron Washington. ... Altuve has five doubles in his last 11 games and an RBI in three straight contests for the first time since May 22-24.
