Angels 4, Tigers 0: Efren Navarro hit his first career homer and drove in two runs while Matt Shoemaker combined with two relievers on a four-hitter as host Los Angeles continued its dominance of Detroit.

C.J. Cron recorded two hits and an RBI while Howie Kendrick also plated a run for the Angels, who improved to 42-16 against the Tigers since 2001. Shoemaker (8-3) scattered three hits over seven innings, striking out five while retiring the side in order four times.

Austin Jackson registered two of the four hits for Detroit, which has lost seven of its last 11 contests. Justin Verlander (9-9) yielded three runs and six hits in seven innings, walking three and fanning four in falling to 4-6 lifetime against Los Angeles.

Los Angeles got on the board in the second inning as Navarro led off by depositing a 1-1 offering from Verlander over the right-field wall. Navarro made it 2-0 in the sixth with a groundout that plated Albert Pujols, who opened the frame with a double, and Cron followed with an RBI double.

The Angels made Joakim Soria's debut with Detroit a rough one as All-Star Erick Aybar led off the eighth against the reliever with a single and advanced to second on an error by right fielder Torii Hunter before scoring on Kendrick's single. The Tigers have recorded a total of 10 hits while scoring one run in their last two games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles LF Josh Hamilton did not play after leaving Friday's game with a sore left knee. ... Verlander has allowed at least three runs in 12 of his last 14 starts. Soria, who was acquired from Texas on Wednesday, retired only one of the four batters he faced. ... Jackson's two-hit performance was his eighth in nine contests.
