Indians 8, Twins 2: Carlos Santana homered among his season high-tying four hits and David Murphy and Chris Dickerson each ripped a two-run single as visiting Cleveland snapped a modest two-game skid.
Nick Swisher had three hits and two runs scored and Yan Gomes had an RBI double for the Indians, who have won seven of the last eight meetings in Minnesota. Danny Salazar (2-4) tossed five-plus solid innings to pick up the win in his first appearance in the majors since May 15.
Brian Dozier belted a solo homer among his three hits and Oswaldo Arcia also scored for the Twins, who fell to 1-4 on their 10-game homestand. Yohan Pino (1-3) permitted four runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Cleveland jumped out of the blocks in a hurry as Murphy ripped a 3-1 fastball from Pino to right field to plate Santana and Lonnie Chisenhall to claim a 2-0 lead in the second. After the teams each scored a run, Santana crushed a 3-2 fastball over the wall in right field for his 15th homer - and first since July 10 - in the fifth.
Recalled from Triple-A Columbus prior to the game, Salazar allowed one run on six hits and struck out six in the win. Dozier belted his career-high 19th homer in the seventh, but Dickerson's liner to left plated a pair to highlight a four-run ninth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Cleveland SS Asdrubal Cabrera sat out after exiting Monday's tilt with lower back spasms. ... Salazar pitched well - but settled for a pair of no-decisions - in his previous meetings with Minnesota this season, permitting two runs in 5 2/3 innings on April 4 before allowing three runs in 6 1/3 on May 7. ... The Twins went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
