Yankees 2, Twins 0: Brett Gardner and Robinson Cano had RBI singles to back five solid innings from Hiroki Kuroda as New York extended its domination of Minnesota on a soggy night at Yankee Stadium.

Kuroda (8-6) came back from a 73-minute rain delay and allowed six hits and struck out five as the Yankees won their third straight and improved to 5-0 versus the Twins this season. Three relievers bridged the gap to Mariano Rivera, who reached 30 saves for the 15th season to break the major-league record he shared with Trevor Hoffman.

Joe Mauer, Brian Dozier and Trevor Plouffe had two hits apiece for Minnesota, which tumbled to its sixth straight defeat and 12th in 13 games. The Twins left 10 on base and were 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

New York pushed across both runs in the fifth against relievers Ryan Pressly (2-2) and Brian Duensing. Luis Cruz led off with a single, was sacrificed to second and scored on Gardner's base hit to left.

Duensing came on to retire Ichiro Suzuki before Cano delivered a run-scoring single to center - his 10th RBI in five games against Minnesota. The Twins put the first two runners aboard in the seventh, but reliever Boone Logan struck out the side - including Mauer and Justin Morneau.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees captain Derek Jeter was sidelined with a strained right quadriceps suffered in his season debut Thursday. He will be re-evaluated after the All-Star break. ... Twins LF Oswaldo Arcia struck out four times and has whiffed in 11 of his last 13 plate appearances. ... Yankees DH Vernon Wells was thrown out at third base on a strike by rookie Aaron Hicks from just in front of the warning track in center field.
