Giants 6, Marlins 4: Gregor Blanco and Pablo Sandoval each drove in two runs and Matt Cain tossed seven strong innings as San Francisco edged host Miami for its third straight win.
One day after the teams combined for 24 runs and 35 hits, the game was scoreless through three innings until San Francisco broke through with four runs in the fourth. Blanco capped the rally with a two-out, two-run triple off Henderson Alvarez (2-2), who yielded four runs on as many hits over seven frames.
Cain (8-8) allowed two hits through the first five innings before Donovan Solano singled to lead off the sixth and scored on Giancarlo Stanton’s two-run homer deep into the left field seats. The 446-foot blast was Stanton’s 14th this season and third against Cain in 16 career at-bats.
Sergio Romo worked a perfect ninth for his 30th save in 34 opportunities for the Giants, who have won 12 of their last 13 games when scoring at least four runs. Cain turned in his fifth consecutive quality start, allowing two runs on four hits while issuing two walks.
The Giants, who matched a season high with eight walks, added to their lead with two runs in the eighth on one hit and four walks. Logan Morrison answered with a two-run double in the bottom half for Miami, who lost for the 10th time in its last 13 games.
