Padres 9, Dodgers 2: Alexi Amarista matched a career high with four RBIs and Jason Marquis pitched 7 2/3 solid innings as San Diego beat host Los Angeles for the second straight night.
Yonder Alonso and Nick Hundley added two RBIs apiece and the Padres racked up 15 hits. Amarista, Alonso and Chris Denorfia had three hits apiece while Hundley and Kyle Blanks had two each.
Marquis (1-1) allowed one run, three hits and walked one. He struck out five and departed after allowing a two-out double in the eighth to Carl Crawford after retiring the previous 12 hitters.
San Diego struck for four first-inning runs off Chris Capuano (0-1) with Amarista’s two-run single capping the uprising. A sacrifice fly by Hundley made it 5-0 in the third before Los Angeles got on the board on A.J. Ellis’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning.
Amarista’s run-scoring single in the fifth gave the Padres a 6-1 lead and Alonso and Jedd Gyorko each added run-scoring singles in the sixth. Amarista finished his strong night with a run-scoring single in the ninth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: San Diego has won six of its last seven games at Dodger Stadium. … Capuano left with none out in the third inning with a strained left calf. He allowed five runs and five hits. … The Padres have scored 15 runs in the first two games of the series after tallying 16 during a five-game losing skid prior to the series.
