White Sox 2, Marlins 1: Conor Gillaspie drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Chicago beat Miami in its final at-bat for the second consecutive night.
Jake Peavy (6-2) struck out five and allowed one run on six hits in a complete game as the Marlins continued their offensive woes. Miami has averaged 1.82 runs over its past 17 games and has been shut out five times during that stretch.
Derek Dietrich broke up the shutout with a long blast to right field with one out in the ninth, but the White Sox needed only two batters to plate the winning run against Ryan Webb (1-3). Dewayne Wise led off the ninth with a double down the left-field line and scored on Gillaspie's single to left one pitch later.
Marlins starter Ricky Nolasco limited the White Sox to one run on eight hits over 7 2/3 innings. Chicago took a 1-0 lead in the third when Alejandro De Aza led off with a single up the middle and scored from first on Alexei Ramirez's double to left.
The Marlins got consecutive singles from Marcell Ozuna and Chris Coghlan to start the second, but Justin Ruggiano rolled into a double play and Greg Dobbs struck out to end the threat. Miami had two on with one out in the eighth before Peavy got a popout from Rob Brantly and a flyout from Juan Pierre to get out of the jam.
