White Sox 6, Mets 3: Alex Rios registered three hits, including a solo home run, and knocked in two runs while Jake Peavy pitched 6 2/3 strong innings as visiting Chicago managed a split of the two-game series.
Alejandro De Aza added a solo homer among his three hits and Conor Gillaspie chipped in with two hits and two RBIs for the White Sox. Peavy (4-1), who missed his last turn due to back spasms, struck out six while allowing three hits and one run to win his third straight decision.
Lucas Duda homered and Ruben Tejada collected a pair of hits and an RBI for the Mets. New York starter Jeremy Hefner (0-4) allowed eight hits and four runs over six innings, striking out five.
Chicago, which managed only one base runner in 10 innings a night earlier, took a 1-0 lead when De Aza homered to right field on the fifth pitch of the game. Duda tied it in the second, lifting a 3-2 pitch from Peavy into the second deck in right field.
De Aza’s bunt single and an infield hit by Alexei Ramirez set the table for Rios’ RBI double and a two-run bloop double by Gillaspie as the Sox took a 4-1 lead in the third. Peavy did not allow another hit after Duda’s homer until Marlon Byrd’s pinch-hit double in the sixth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago 1B Paul Konerko knocked in a run with a single in the seventh for his 168th career RBI in interleague play, second all-time behind Alex Rodriguez (198). … Duda has six solo homers and one two-run blast among his seven this season. … The White Sox notched their 900th quality start since 2003 with Peavy’s effort, the most in the majors during that span.
