White Sox 5, Rays 2: Chris Sale worked seven strong innings and Adam Dunn homered as Chicago took the opener of a four-game set from visiting Tampa Bay.

Jeff Keppinger doubled in a run and Paul Konerko and Conor Gillaspie each added an RBI during a three-run first inning for the White Sox, who have won back-to-back games after dropping four straight. Sale (2-2) made the big first inning stand up, allowing two runs and four hits while matching a season high with seven strikeouts.

Evan Longoria singled in a run and Jose Lobaton hit a solo homer as the Rays totaled five hits in the opener of a 10-game road trip. Jeremy Hellickson (1-2) got the start for Tampa Bay and was knocked around for five runs and five hits in six frames while striking out eight.

The Rays jumped on top on Longoria’s RBI single in the first, but Chicago quickly took control in the bottom of the frame. Alejandro De Aza and Keppinger led off with back-to-back doubles and Konerko singled in the go-ahead run two batters later before Gillaspie’s sacrifice fly capped the rally.

Tampa Bay drew within a run on Lobaton’s solo blast in the fourth but Dunn made it a three-run game by belting an 0-1 fastball into the right-field stands with Alex Rios aboard. Matt Lindstrom pitched the eighth and Addison Reed worked around a leadoff single in the ninth for his seventh save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dunn finished 1-for-4 and is 2-for-41 over the last 12 games. … Rays SS Yunel Escobar (hamstring) sat out and is day-to-day. Ben Zobrist started at shortstop to fill the hole. … Longoria has reached base safely in 21 of 22 games.
