Diamondbacks 9, Dodgers 4: Paul Goldschmidt belted a two-run homer and Adam Eaton collected two hits and three RBIs as host Arizona denied Los Angeles from clinching the National League West.
Aaron Hill went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Gerardo Parra, Martin Prado and Chris Owings each drove in a run for the Diamondbacks, who have won four of their last five contests. Brandon McCarthy (5-9) labored through six innings, yielding three runs and 10 hits with three strikeouts.
Yasiel Puig went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and Tim Federowicz added a solo blast and an RBI double for the Dodgers, whose magic number to clinch the West remained at two.
Goldschmidt opened the scoring in the first inning with his NL-leading 34th home run and Arizona doubled its lead with two runs in the third against Stephen Fife (4-4), who surrendered four runs on six hits and three walks in 2 1/3 frames. Los Angeles battled back to get within 4-3 before the Diamondbacks erupted for five runs in the eighth to put away the game.
Hill and Prado delivered RBI doubles against Ronald Belisario before Peter Moylan walked Owings with the bases loaded. Eaton, who also drew a bases-loaded walk in the third, capped the rally with a two-run single.
