Dodgers 7, Rockies 1: Matt Kemp, Luis Cruz and A.J. Ellis each homered as host Los Angeles won its fifth straight game to keep its slim postseason hopes alive.
Josh Beckett (2-3) gave up one run over six innings for the Dodgers, who remain two games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second National League wild card with three to play. The Cardinals beat Washington 10-4 earlier Sunday.
After Andrew Brown snapped Colorado’s 26-inning scoreless streak with a leadoff homer in the top of the fourth, the Dodgers responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning off Jorge De La Rosa (0-2). Kemp’s two-run homer started it and Cruz added his two-run shot over the left field wall.
De La Rosa allowed four runs over four innings in his third start for the Rockies since returning from Tommy John surgery. Colorado needs to win one of its final three games to avoid 100 losses.
Kemp has three homers in the last two games and is 11-for-20 with four home runs and nine RBIs in his last five contests. Ellis added to the Dodgers’ lead with a two-run shot in the sixth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position in the first five innings and 0-for-11 for the game. … Los Angeles 1B Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. … The Dodgers are 58-4 this season when scoring five or more runs, including 12 straight wins.
