Rookie Neil Walker drove in three runs, including the go-ahead two-run single in the seventh inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied to beat Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 on Tuesday at PNC Park.

The Cardinals scored once in the ninth and loaded the bases with one out, but Evan Meek got Matt Holliday and Felipe Lopez to pop out for his second save of the year.

Holliday gave the Cardinals a 2-0 with a two-run homer in the first, but Pittsburgh's late rally denied Wainwright (17-8) a second consecutive bid to become the first 18-game winner in the majors.

The Pirates broke through in the sixth, when Jose Tabata tripled home Andrew McCutchen and scored on Walker's RBI single to tie it. Walker gave them the lead an inning later with a two-run single to center.

Wainwright allowed four runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking four.

Pittsburgh starter Paul Maholm (8-12) gave up two runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings for the win.

Albert Pujols, who is sitting on 399 career home runs, went 3-for-5 with a double to raise his average to .322.
