Matt Holliday homered and drove in three runs and Adam Wainwright dominated the Oakland Athletics to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-3 victory on Saturday.

Skip Schumaker added two hits and an RBI and Yadier Molina scored a run for the Cardinals, who have taken the first two games of the series and won four of five overall.

The A’s jumped on top with an unearned run in the first when Molina overthrew third base attempting to catch Rajai Davis stealing. Ben Sheets (2-7) started for Oakland and held St. Louis at bay until the fifth, when Schumaker’s single pushed Molina across with the tying run.

Holliday followed with a double to deep center, scoring Schumaker and putting St. Louis on top. Holliday provided some breathing room in the seventh with his eighth homer of the season – a two-run shot to deep left against his former team.

Wainwright cruised through most of the contest, allowing just five hits and walking one while striking out four in eight innings. The right-hander pushed his record to 10-4 while lowering his ERA to 2.21.

Ryan Franklin made things interesting in the ninth by allowing two runs, but Jason Motte came in to get the final three outs and secure his second save of the season.
