Laynce Nix scored three runs and hit one of the Cincinnati Reds’ three homers in a 7-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Friday.
Jonny Gomes hit a two-run home run and scored a pair of runs as the Reds rebounded from a crushing loss to Atlanta on Thursday, when they blew a seven-run lead in the ninth, to send the Indians to their fifth straight loss.
Shin-Soo Choo homered twice for Cleveland, both off starter Bronson Arroyo (4-2). The right-hander allowed four runs in 6 2/3 innings, but pitched well enough to win his third-straight start.
The last four spots in Cleveland’s order went a combined 0 for 13, while closer Kerry Wood, still working his way into shape after recently coming off the disabled list, allowed a ninth-inning homer to Brandon Phillips to close the scoring.
Wood has allowed six runs in his last 1 1-3 innings.
Choo’s homer in the fifth tied the game at 4, but Nix doubled in a run in the sixth – one of his three hits – and Orlando Cabrera added an RBI single off reliever Aaron Laffey (0-1).
