Clay Buchholz allowed just one run and struck out eight batters as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 6-1 on Monday night.

It was the first win for the Red Sox in five meetings between the two American League East rivals this season.

Buchholz (6-3) went six innings while scattering six hits with just one walk.

Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz homered for Boston, winners of six its last seven games. Dustin Pedroia ended an 0-for-19 skid with three hits and Adrian Beltre also had three hits.

The Red Sox opened the scoring in the second inning on Ortiz’s ninth home run of the season. Boston scored three times in the fourth off starter Wade Davis (4-4). J.D. Drew had a bases-loaded walk followed by RBI singles from Beltre and Jeremy Hermida.

Youkilis hit a two-run homer, his 10th, in the sixth inning to give Boston a 6-0 advantage.

Carlos Pena homered off Buchholz in the bottom of the sixth for Tampa Bay’s only run.
