Texas Tech raced out to a big first-half lead over Tennessee-Martin and cruised to a 68-49 victory on Wednesday night at the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.
Guard Toddrick Gotcher led Texas Tech with 20 points and forward Justin Gray came of the bench to score 15.
Forward Myles Taylor scored 14 points to lead UT-Martin and guard Richard Lee added 12.
The Skyhawks (2-7) outscored the Red Raiders 33-29 in the second half after falling into a deep hole in the first 20 minutes.
Texas Tech (6-1) stretched its lead to 23 points in the first half on the strength of a 15-2 run.
With the Red Raiders leading 20-12, forward Aaron Ross ignited the surge with back-to-back baskets on a layup and a jumper. Gray contributed a three-point play with 4:43 left in the half and guard Keenan Evans finished the run with a transition layup followed by a steal and a fast-break layup.
Gotcher hit 4 of 5 shots from 3-point range in the first half and led all scorers with 12 points.
The Red Raiders shot 45.9 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes and held the Skyhawks to 25 percent shooting from the floor. UT-Martin committed 11 turnovers in the first half and Texas Tech led 39-16 at the break.
