With seven new faces, Tulane figured to experience some growing pains this season. Those expectations came true Friday night in the Green Wave's season opener in New Orleans.
Alabama A&M senior Ladarius Tabb, the 2015-16 SWAC Preseason Player of the Year, scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds and point guard Jacob Perry hit a game-winning layup at the buzzer to give the Bulldogs a 68-67 overtime win over Tulane.
Tulane and Alabama A&M seemed to be running on empty in the extra frame as between the two only two field goals and five total points were scored.
Senior guard Louis Dabney made a layup with 4:00 left for Tulane's only basket in OT. A Nicholas West free throw for the Bulldogs cut the deficit to one with 2:27 remaining, setting up Perry's heroics on the final possession.
Tulane closed the game going 0 of 4 from the field with three turnovers.
West scored 20 points and added eight boards for Alabama A&M, which shot just 39.1 percent from the field but held Tulane to 38.6 percent shooting and forced 19 Green Wave turnovers.
Senior Jernard Jarreau, a fifth-year graduate student transfer from Washington, scored 16 points to lead Tulane.
