University of South Carolina picked up the key 64-60 win over rival Clemson Sunday afternoon. Despite winning their last four games, this was the first time the Gamecocks have been tested since their November 16 loss to No. 6 Michigan State.
The Gamecocks (6-1) held the Tigers to 34-3 at the half and never looked back. Four SC players were able to put up points in double digits. Freshman Bruce Ellington led the pack with 14. Ellington was also hot from downtown making 3 of 3 three pointers. Also contributing for USC was forward Sam Muldrow, who went 4 for 4 from the line.
This latest loss does not bode well for Clemson (5-3), who open ACC play a week from Sunday. After losing to University of Michigan the Tigers had hoped to rebound against the Gamecocks, but instead shot a cold .386 from inside the line. Encouraging however, was the performance of guard Andre Young who went 3 for 4 on free throws and totaled 15 points on the day.
Clemson opens league play on the road in Tallahassee against the Florida State Seminoles, while South Carolina will look to increase their win streak when they take on Wofford at home Saturday.
