Alex Steen scored a goal and set up another while Brian Elliott made 25 saves as the St. Louis Blues continued their home dominance with a 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Thursday.
Patrik Berglund, David Perron and Jason Arnott also tallied for St. Louis, which concluded a 4-1-0 homestand and improved to 12-3-1 in its own building this season.
Berglund and Perron scored less than four minutes apart in the first period for a 2-0 lead before Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto halved the deficit late in the middle session.
Steen restored the two-goal cushion 61 seconds into the third when the puck deflected off his body and over goaltender Henrik Lundqvist.
Arnott's empty-netter late in the period sealed the win for Elliott, who has allowed more than two goals only once in 16 games this season. Elliott entered as the league leader in goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts.
Lundqvist turned aside 32 shots for New York, which had its four-game road winning streak snapped. The Rangers have lost four of their last six contests.
