Prentiss Hubb scored a career-high 25 points and T.J. Gibbs added 17 to help visiting Notre Dame defeat Georgia Tech 78-74 on Wednesday in Atlanta.
Hubb silenced the fans who taunted him for an early airball by making back-to-back 3-pointers late in the game to change the momentum in favor of the Irish. The sophomore was 8-for-16 from the field and iced the game by making a free throw with four seconds left. It was the third time in four games that Hubb has scored 20-plus.
Gibbs nailed a 3-pointer with 1:04 left that put the Irish ahead by six. Georgia Tech never got closer than three points the rest of the game.
Notre Dame (11-6, 2-4 ACC) also got 15 points from Dane Goodwin and 10 points and 13 rebounds from John Mooney. It was the 11th straight game in which Mooney has recorded a double-double and his 14th of the season.
Georgia Tech (8-9, 3-4) was led by Michael Devoe with 22 points and a career-high-tying nine rebounds. Moses Wright scored 16 and James Banks III added 10 points.
Notre Dame enjoyed its largest lead of the first half when Goodwin drained a 3-pointer to give the Fighting Irish a 24-17 lead at 6:33. But Georgia Tech scored seven unanswered points and tied the game 24-24 when Bubba Parham made a short jumper from the paint with 3:49 left. Notre Dame's Hubb drove for a layup with two seconds left to give his team a 29-27 lead at halftime.
The game was tied four times in the second half before Georgia Tech went on a 6-0 run and took a 43-38 lead on Devoe's three-point play. Notre Dame later responded with a 6-0 run of its own and grabbed a 50-49 lead on Hubb's jumper at the 8:26 mark.
Georgia Tech plays again on Saturday when it hosts defending NCAA champion Virginia. Notre Dame is off until Wednesday when it hosts Syracuse.
