Georgetown 64, No. 6 Michigan State 60: Markel Starks scored 16 points as the Hoyas snapped a five-game slide with an upset of the Spartans at Madison Square Garden.

D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera had 12 points and Mikael Hopkins added 10 for Georgetown (12-9), which secured its first win in regulation since Jan. 4 despite going 2-for-12 from beyond the arc. Nate Lubick contributed eight points and six rebounds and Jabril Trawick added eight points off the bench in his second game since missing five contests due to a broken jaw.

Gary Harris led Michigan State (19-3) with 20 points, hitting four of his team's nine 3-pointers. Denzel Valentine had 11 points and Kenny Kaminski added 10 for the Spartans, who shot 9-of-29 from long range.

Michigan State ended a tight first half with a 30-29 lead but managed just one basket in the first seven minutes of the second as Georgetown opened the half on an 11-2 run. Harris hit a corner 3-pointer to pull the Spartans within 44-41 with nine minutes left and nailed two more to trim the deficit to 56-54 with 1:36 to go.

Trawick had a tip-in at the other end and then a Harris turnover led to a free throw for Starks that made it 59-54 with 49 seconds left. Smith-Rivera's two free throws put the Hoyas up by six moments later before another Spartans giveaway allowed Trawick to escape for a thunderous dunk to make it a 63-55 game with 28 ticks remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Georgetown had a 37-30 advantage on the boards and made 18-of-24 free throws, compared to 9-of-16 for Michigan State. ... G Keith Appling had seven points, a game-high six assists and three steals for the Spartans. ... This was just the second all-time meeting between the powerhouse programs, the first coming in the 1986 NCAA Tournament.
