E.J. Singler had 19 points and seven rebounds to lead Oregon to a 79-70 victory over visiting Portland State on Monday.
Garrett Sim and Devoe Joseph added 13 points apiece as the Ducks (6-2) improved to 5-0 at home.
Chehales Tapscott scored 16 points, Lateef McMullan added 14 points and Charles Odum tallied 12 for Portland State (5-4), which fell to 0-4 on the road.
Oregon appeared on its way to an easy victory after a dunk by Tony Woods with 6:48 remaining gave the Ducks a 65-51 lead.
But the Vikings made things interesting with eight straight points and eventually cut their deficit to 71-68 on Michael Harthun’s 3-pointer with 1:07 remaining. But Joseph scored eight points on a field goal and six free throws down the stretch as the Ducks held on.
Earlier in the half, Oregon had begun to pull away with an 8-0 run, and Sim’s 3-pointer gave the Ducks a 56-43 lead with 11:03 left.
The Vikings led 20-16 after Charles Odum’s layup with 9:10 to go in the first half before Oregon responded with a 14-4 run. Singler scored the first six points and added a 3-pointer later in the spurt. The Ducks led 34-27 at halftime.
