The Panthers, who narrowly lost to George Mason in the regular-season finale last weekend, came out strong in the first half, opening up a 27-16 lead with less than seven minutes remaining. But the Patriots picked it up from there, ending the half with a 15-2 surge to take a 31-29 lead into the locker room.
Georgia State hung around for the first few minutes of the second half before the George Mason defense took over, holding the Panthers to one field goal over a 10-minute stretch and using a 22-2 burst to put the game away.
Eric Buckner was the only player to reach double figures with 10 points for Georgia State (12-19, 6-13), which committed 21 turnovers in the contest
