Corey Fisher forced overtime with a 3-pointer and scored seven points in the extra period, as No. 14 Villanova escaped with a 77-75 victory over DePaul on Saturday in Rosemont, Ill.
Fisher finished with 34 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, for the Wildcats (21-6, 9-5 Big East), who moved into a tie for third place in the Big East with three other teams. The top four finishers in the conference receive a double bye in the Big East Tournament.
The Blue Demons (7-19, 1-13), who snapped a 25-game conference losing streak with a win at Providence on Thursday, were threatening to make it two straight when Jeremiah Kelly’s 3-pointer with 26 seconds left in regulation put them up, 60-59.
Two free throws pushed the lead to 62-59 before Fisher drove the other way and knocked down a 3-pointer in transition to tie it at 62-62 and force overtime.
Moses Morgan’s 3-pointer gave DePaul a brief lead in the extra period, before Fisher hit a free throw and completed a three-point play to put the Wildcats up for good. Fisher would hit three more free throws in the final 16 seconds to seal it.
