Lakers 103, Magic 94: Jordan Hill recorded a career-high 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Los Angeles defeated visiting Orlando to snap a four-game losing streak.
Nick Young scored 13 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter to help the Lakers hold off every surge by the Magic, who dropped their ninth straight contest. Jodie Meeks added 13 points and six steals for Los Angeles, which played without leading scorer Pau Gasol in the second half due to illness.
Victor Oladipo led the way with 21 points and 10 assists while Arron Afflalo scored 18 for Orlando, which fell to a league-worst 4-34 on the road. Tobias Harris contributed 16 points, Kyle O’Quinn had 14 and Nikola Vucevic hauled in 11 rebounds for the Magic, who finished with 20 turnovers.
The Lakers scored eight of the first 10 – four by Young -- in the fourth quarter to take an eight-point lead, but Afflalo scored five straight to pull Orlando within 83-80. The Magic was down 91-87 before Young drained a long 3-pointer with 3:24 left, Meeks followed with a steal and two free throws and Orlando could not get closer than six after that.
Harris scored the first six of the second quarter to give Orlando a 30-29 lead before the Lakers tallied 17 of the next 19, highlighted by three-point plays from Hill and Young. The Magic recorded the final eight points of the first half to close within 55-48 and eight of the last 10 in the third quarter to get within 75-73.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Gasol finished with six points, three assists and two rebounds in 19 minutes. … Lakers G Steve Nash, who made a surprise return from a back injury against Washington on Friday and handed out 11 assists, did not play against the Magic. … Orlando G Jameer Nelson missed his third straight game with a sore left knee.
