NEW YORK -- New York Mets right-hander Matt Harvey earned the win Tuesday night in his first start at Citi Field since returning from Tommy John surgery and first baseman Lucas Duda delivered a three-run double in the second inning that gave the Mets the lead for good in their 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Mets (5-3) have won three straight while the Phillies (3-5) have dropped three in a row.
Harvey wasn't quite as dominant as he was in his season debut Thursday, when he threw six shutout innings against the Washington Nationals. On Tuesday, he allowed three runs on five hits but didn't issue a walk and struck out eight in his first appearance at home since Aug. 24, 2013, two days before he was diagnosed with a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Harvey, who underwent Tommy John surgery on Oct. 24, 2013, has 17 strikeouts and one walk in his first 12 innings this season.
Right-hander Jeurys Familia, the Mets' fifth pitcher, earned his third save in as many days despite allowing a solo homer to right fielder Jeff Francouer.
Duda, right fielder Curtis Granderson, third baseman David Wright and catcher Travis d'Arnaud had two hits apiece. Second baseman Daniel Murphy homered leading off the seventh.
Wright (right hamstring) and left fielder Michael Cuddyer (left hand) left the game with injuries. The Mets ended the game with backup catcher Anthony Recker, their last man on the bench, playing third after Wright exited in the bottom of the eighth.
Phillies second baseman Chase Utley was 3-for-3 with a pair of solo homers and three RBIs. Third baseman Cody Asche also hit a solo homer.
Right-hander David Buchanan took the loss after giving up five runs, all earned, on nine hits and two walks while striking out three over 5 2/3 innings.
Harvey's first start at Citi Field in 596 days was an eventful one.
A late-arriving crowd stood when Harvey got two strikes on the first two batters, center fielder Odubel Herrera and shortstop Freddy Galvis, and roared when he struck Herrera out with a curveball and Galvis with a 98 mph fastball.
But Utley hit his 34th career homer against the Mets just fourth pitches later. It was the first homer surrendered by Harvey since July 8, 2013, a span of 61 innings.
The Mets tied it in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Cuddyer and took a 4-1 lead in the second on a two-out bases-clearing double by Duda.
The Phillies clawed within 4-3 on Utley's RBI single in the third and a solo homer by Asche in the fourth.
Buchanan, who plunked Mets shortstop Wilmer Flores and Cuddyer in the second inning, led off the fifth with a double and was standing at third two outs later, when Harvey appeared to get retaliation by hitting Utley in the back with a pitch.
First baseman Ryan Howard loaded the bases when he was awarded first base on an interference call on d'Arnaud. Mets manager Terry Collins was ejected for arguing before Harvey escaped the jam by retiring catcher Carlos Ruiz on a pop up to third.
The Mets extended their lead to 5-3 in the fifth, when Duda led off with a double and slid across the plate ahead of the tag on d'Arnaud's two-out single. The Phillies protested the call, but the run was upheld on review.
Harvey's night ended with a 1-2-3 sixth that concluded with Granderson making a running catch of a liner by left fielder Ben Revere. Harvey pumped his right fist as he walked off the mound.
NOTES: A pair of injured Mets, RHP Vic Black and RHP Bobby Parnell, joined Class A St. Lucie on rehab assignments Tuesday. Manager Terry Collins said both pitchers would need to throw on back-to-back days at least once before rejoining the major league club. ... Mets LHP Jerry Blevins was unavailable Tuesday after throwing 26 pitches over the previous two days. ... Phillies LF Ben Reve
