Marlins 2, Braves 1: Josh Johnson pitched six dominating innings and Emilio Bonifacio homered as host Miami ended a five-game losing streak and dropped Atlanta to 0-12 on Mondays this season.
Johnson (6-7) allowed only a fifth-inning single to Brian McCann before exiting after the sixth inning due to an injured middle finger on his pitching hand. He struck out nine and walked none.
Michael Bourn and Martin Prado singled to start the ninth for Atlanta before Steve Cishek coaxed Jason Heyward to bounce into a double play. Replays showed Heyward was safe at first, and Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez was ejected for arguing with first-base umpire Laz Diaz.
Chipper Jones followed with a run-scoring single before Scott Cousins made a sliding catch to rob Freddie Freeman on a fly to center and preserve Cishek's third save.
Miami opened the game with three consecutive singles against Atlanta starter Mike Minor (5-7), with Carlos Lee knocking in Jose Reyes.
Bonifacio led off the second with his first homer of the season as the Marlins downed the Braves hours after trading pitcher Anibal Sanchez and infielder Omar Infante to the Detroit Tigers for three players.
Johnson retired the first 14 batters he faced before McCann reached with two out in the fifth.
Atlanta lost its third straight game and fell 4 1/2 games behind division-leading Washington in the National League East.
Minor allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Marlins acquired RHP Jacob Turner, C Rob Brantly and LHP Brian Flynn in the deal with the Tigers. β¦ Atlanta is reportedly working on a deal to acquire NL ERA leader Ryan Dempster from the Chicago Cubs. Dempster has the right to approve any deal involving him because heβs a 10-year veteran who has played at least five years with his current team. β¦ Miami expects 3B Hanley Ramirez (hand) to return to the lineup on Tuesday. β¦ Braves 2B Dan Uggla was hitless in three at-bats and is batting just .156 (5-for-32) since the All-Star break.
