Great Osobor scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Washington defeated Maryland 75-69 on Thursday night in Seattle for its first Big Ten Conference victory.
Freshman Zoom Diallo came off the bench and scored a career-high 18 points for the Huskies (10-4, 1-2 Big Ten), who overcame a nine-point second-half deficit.
DJ Davis added 17 points for Washington, including four free throws in the final 24 seconds to help clinch the victory in the first meeting between the schools. There were 15 ties and 16 lead changes.
Julian Reese led the Terrapins (11-3, 1-2) with 22 points and seven rebounds. Selton Miguel scored 12 points and Rodney Rice and Jordan Geronimo added 10 apiece.
Freshman Derik Queen, who entered the game leading Maryland with an average of 16.8 points per game, was limited by foul trouble and managed just four points on 1-for-7 shooting.
Trailing 58-55, the Huskies went on a 7-0 run sparked by Diallo's driving layup with 5:33 to go. Diallo followed with a steal and got the ball to Davis, who was fouled and made both free throws to give the Huskies the lead.
A steal by Luis Kortright led to a layup and a foul, and his three-point play put Washington up 62-58 with 4:57 left. The Huskies led the rest of the game.
Maryland led 33-30 at the intermission and opened the second half with an 8-2 run to take a 41-32 lead, but the Huskies battled back and took a 47-46 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
The Huskies maintained a deliberate pace to slow the Terrapins, who entered the game averaging 87.2 points per game, 12th in NCAA Division I.
The Terrapins shot 44.8 percent from the field (26 of 58) despite making just 2 of 11 3-point attempts. Washington shot 45.6 percent (26 of 57) and was 5 of 24 from long distance. The Huskies were 18 of 23 from the free-throw line and had a 44-20 edge in bench scoring.
