Greg Zuerlein converted the game-tying and game-winning field goals for the New York Jets to stun the host New York Giants 13-10 in overtime on Sunday in rain-soaked East Rutherford, N.J.
The Jets (4-3) forced overtime when Zuerlein drilled a 35-yard field goal as time expired in regulation. The Giants' Graham Gano had missed his own 35-yarder with 24 seconds left, and Zach Wilson hit Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard on consecutive 29-yard passes to get the Jets into field-goal range with time winding down.
The Giants (2-6) went three-and-out to start the extra session, and the Jets -- aided by a pass interference call on Adoree' Jackson -- traveled 46 yards in six plays to set up Zuerlein's winner.
Zach Wilson finished 17-for-36 passing for 240 yards and one touchdown. He also led the Jets in rushing with four carries for 25 yards.
Quarterback Tommy DeVito, an undrafted rookie and New Jersey native, came in for the Giants when starter Tyrod Taylor suffered a rib injury during the second quarter and was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
DeVito scored on a 6-yard run with 8:59 left in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough for the Giants to hold on. After going 0-for-4 passing in regulation, he completed two passes for a loss of 1 yard in overtime to cap a sloppy, offensively-challenged game.
The Jets and Giants combined for 24 punts, the most in an NFL game in at least 20 years. They went a combined 4-for-34 (11.8 percent) on third downs.
Saquon Barkley ran a career-high 36 times for 128 yards for the Giants. Kayvon Thibodeaux had three sacks and a forced fumble.
On the Jets' opening drive, Thibodeaux stripped Zach Wilson of the ball and Jihad Ward recovered to set the Giants up at the Jets 19-yard line. They settled for Gano's 31-yard field goal.
It became a punting battle until the Jets took over at the 50-yard line late in the first quarter. On first down, Zach Wilson threw a checkdown pass to Breece Hall, who weaved through several defenders and sprinted away for a touchdown and a 7-3 Jets lead.
The Giants recaptured the lead on the opening drive of the second half. Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson's unnecessary roughness penalty on a third-and-goal stop gave the Giants new life. Three plays later, DeVito ran left for 6 yards and his first career touchdown.
After the Jets turned it over on downs inside two minutes in the fourth, they stuffed the Giants on three plays and used their timeouts to force a field-goal try. Gano missed for the second time Sunday.
