Reese White rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns Friday as No. 17 Coastal Carolina hosted a Power 5 opponent for the first time and toppled Kansas 49-22 before a record crowd of 17,697 in Conway, S.C.

The Chanticleers (2-0) extended their home winning streak to nine games with a third win in three years against the Jayhawks (1-1).

Grayson McCall, who drew his first start for the Chanticleers at Kansas a year ago, again showed off the form that made him the 2020 Sun Belt player of the year by passing for 245 yards, going 17 of 21 with two touchdowns. He also rushed for a score.

Kansas, which has not defeated a ranked opponent since 2010, showed flashes behind North Texas transfer Jason Bean. Named the starting quarterback last week on the same day as the season opener, Bean propelled the Jayhawks to a 9-7 lead after one quarter.

Electric at times, Bean finished with 102 yards rushing and two scores while adding 189 yards passing as Kansas continued to roll out an attack designed by new coach Lance Leipold.

The balanced Chanticleers countered with too much strength, recording 460 total yards, 245 through the air and 215 on the ground. Their defense posted six sacks, 3.5 of them by Josaiah Stewart.

White paced the run game by averaging 7.3 yards per carry as Coastal Carolina continued its ascent to prominence in its fifth season as a full-time FBS member. Jaivon Heiligh paced the Chanticleers' receivers with six catches for 122 yards and one touchdown.

McCall completed 8 of 10 first-half attempts with one touchdown and rushed for another score to lead Coastal Carolina to a 28-15 halftime margin. White also scored a TD while rushing for 54 first-half yards.

Special teams boosted the Chanticleers as Alex Spillum blocked a punt that he also recovered in the end zone. Stuffing Kansas for no gain on a fourth-and-1 play also provided Coastal Carolina a short field that it converted into a 35-yard TD drive.

In the first quarter, a 35-yard pass from Bean to Luke Grimm keyed a drive that Devin Neal capped with a 2-yard burst to put Kansas up 9-7. Bean also scored on a 34-yard keeper with 1:36 left in the half.
