Kendall Stephens added 13 points for Purdue (7-2), which bounced back from a home upset loss to North Florida on Saturday. Isaac Haas added 10 points and five boards to the winning effort.
Joe Edwards was the only player for IPFW (5-3) in double figures with 12 points. Steve Forbes, who came into the game averaging 16.4 points, finished with nine on 3-of-11 shooting from the field.
The Boilermakers started fast, jumping out to an 8-3 lead just over five minutes into the game, then increasing the lead to 11 on Rapheal Davis' free throws with 9:41 to play in the half. Purdue went on a 12-3 run over a four-minute span to push the advantage to 18 and the lead reached as much as 21 before the Mastodons scored the final five points of the half to pull within 35-19.
A 9-3 run to open the second half pulled IPFW within 10, and the Mastodons had it down to seven on Forbes' dunk with 10:31 to play. Purdue, however, responded with five quick points, then went on a 9-2 run to push the lead back to 17 with 3:11 to play on Stephens' 3-pointer, ending any IPFW hopes of a comeback.
GAME NOTEBOOK: IPFW's 19 points in the first half was the sixth time this year that Purdue has held an opponent to 20 points or less in a half. … The Boilermakers had 18 assists on 25 made baskets. … The Mastodons shot 28.6 percent from the field, including 4-of-15 from 3-point range.
