Pittsburgh 80, Mount St. Mary's 48: Talib Zanna scored 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting, and Tray Woodall added 14 points and six assists as the host Panthers won their 16th consecutive season opener.
Central Michigan transfer Trey Zeigler chipped in 11 points off the bench in his debut for Pittsburgh, which shot 70.8 percent from the field (34-of-48).
The Mountaineers made six of their first eight 3-point attempts to take an 18-17 lead, but the Panthers answered with a 9-0 run and didn't trail again. Pitt closed the first half on an 11-2 run and opened the second half with a 12-0 spurt to blow it open.
Pittsburgh's hot shooting spoiled the debut of first-year coach Jamion Christian, whose team got just three points from its bench. Xavier Owens led the Mountaineers with 15 points, Rashad Whack added 11 and Julian Norfleet scored 10.
Pitt has won all five meetings with Mount St. Mary's and improved to 71-1 all-time against opponents from the Northeast Conference.
