Cavaliers 120, Lakers 118: Luol Deng made all five of his 3-point attempts while scoring 27 points in his third game with Cleveland and Anderson Varejao had 18 points, 18 rebounds and six assists as the Cavaliers defeated the host Lakers.

Dion Waiters scored 17 points and Tristan Thompson had 15 points and 13 rebounds as Cleveland prevailed in coach Mike Brown’s return to Los Angeles. Kyrie Irving added 13 points and the Cavaliers made 13-of-17 3-point attempts while improving to 4-16 on the road.

Nick Young with 28 points and Jodie Meeks with 26 both recorded season-high scoring outputs and combined for 10 of Los Angeles’ 13 3-pointers. Pau Gasol had 20 points and 12 rebounds, Wesley Johnson scored 17 points and Kendall Marshall had 10 points and 16 assists for the Lakers, who have lost five straight games and 11 of their last 12.

Deng scored seven points during a 12-0 run that saw the Cavaliers take a 108-100 lead midway through the final quarter. A 3-pointer by Waiters made it a 10-point margin with 3:15 remaining before the Lakers pulled within 118-116 on three free throws by Young with 25.3 seconds to go and eventually succumbing to their eighth loss in the last 10 home games.

Los Angeles rolled up 40 second-quarter points and headed into the break with a 63-57 lead. Cleveland began the third quarter with an 18-4 burst to take an eight-point lead before settling for an 88-85 edge at the end of the stanza.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Meeks made six 3-pointers, one shy of his career high. … Deng averaged just 11 points in his first two games after being acquired from the Chicago Bulls. … Marshall is averaging 12 assists in his six consecutive starts.
