Juan Soto hit a go-ahead, three-run double in the seventh and the host New York Yankees completed a three-game series sweep by defeating the Detroit Tigers 5-2 in a rain-shortened game on Sunday afternoon.
The game was called after 7 1/2 innings.
Aaron Judge homered one day after his first career ejection. Oswaldo Cabrera added two hits and an RBI.
Yankees starter Nestor Cortes was charged with two runs and three hits in 6 1/3 innings while recording nine strikeouts. Victor Gonzalez (2-1) picked up the win in relief, and Dennis Santana pitched the eighth for his second save.
Detroit starter Tarik Skubal struck out a career-high 12 in six innings while allowing two runs and six hits. Spencer Torkelson had two doubles and an RBI to lead the Tigers' offense.
Shelby Miller (3-4) replaced Skubal with the game tied in the bottom of the seventh. Jon Berti walked, Jose Trevino singled and Anthony Volpe walked to load the bases. Lefty Andrew Chafin then came in for Miller, and Soto cleared the bases with his double to the right field corner.
Judge blasted his seventh homer of the season to the opposite field with two outs in the first. Skubal hadn't given up a homer in his last four starts before Judge jumped on a 1-1 fastball.
Gleyber Torres and Berti had one-out singles in the bottom of the second. Cabrera brought home Torres with a two-out double to right to make it 2-0.
Skubal locked in during the third, striking out the side. He fanned two more in the fourth.
However, Cortes continued to silence the Tigers' bats. After a two-out double by Torkelson in the second and a two-out walk to Riley Greene in the fourth, Cortes didn't allow another baserunner until the seventh.
Mark Canha led off the seventh with a single and advanced to second on Jake Rogers' single. Ian Hamilton then replaced Cortes and Torkelson greeted the reliever with a double to left, bringing home Canha.
After Colt Keith walked to load the bases, Javier Baez hit into a fielder's choice and Rogers scored the tying run. Gonzalez induced pinch hitter Kerry Carpenter to hit into a force play, keeping the score tied.
Soto and the Yankees responded against Miller in the bottom half.
