Odubel Herrera doubled twice, walked twice and scored two runs while Andrew Knapp added a two-run pinch-hit single for the Phillies.

Starting catcher J.T. Realmuto left in the seventh inning after being hit by a foul ball on his left knee.

Phillies starter Chase Anderson (2-3) pitched five-plus innings and gave up three hits and two runs, with five strikeouts and one walk.

Trea Turner had three hits, including a home run, for the Nationals, who have dropped three in a row. Juan Soto singled and walked three times.

Nationals starter Erick Fedde (2-4) tossed five innings and allowed five hits and three runs to go with four strikeouts and three walks.

The Phillies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Harper launched a 433-foot solo home run to the second deck in right field. It was Harper's first homer since April 25.

In the third, the Phillies went ahead 2-0 when Rhys Hoskins blooped an RBI single to center.

Philadelphia took a 3-0 advantage in the fourth when Andrew McCutchen lofted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Herrera.

The Nationals managed only two hits -- singles by Turner and Soto -- through the first four innings. Washington's Josh Harrison, Victor Robles and pinch hitter Yadiel Hernandez went down in order in the fifth.

The Phillies loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth but couldn't score. Jean Segura battled through a 14-pitch at-bat yet lined out to center to end the threat.

Turner opened the sixth with a solo home run and Kyle Schwarber added an RBI single to close the Nationals to within 3-2.

Jose Alvarado struck out Josh Bell swinging on a 101 mph sinker with the bases loaded to finish the seventh.

The Phillies extended their advantage to 4-2 in the eighth when Alec Bohm hit an RBI double to right-center. Knapp added a two-run pinch-hit single off Kyle Finnegan for a 6-2 lead.
