Tyrece Radford scored 20 points and No. 20 Virginia Tech made enough defensive stops down the stretch to escape with a 64-60 road victory against Wake Forest on Sunday night in Winston-Salem, N.C.
David N'Guessan and Hunter Cattoor both added 13 points for the Hokies (11-2, 5-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), who committed 15 turnovers.
Keve Aluma pulled in 11 rebounds and blocked four shots to help compensate for his 1-for-6 shooting from the field for Virginia Tech, which shot 4-for-18 on 3-point attempts.
Ismael Massoud came off the bench to score 12 points, aided by three of the team's seven 3-point baskets, to pace Wake Forest. Daivien Williamson provided 11 points and Isaiah Mucius had 10.
Wake Forest (3-5, 0-5) played its fourth consecutive game against a nationally ranked opponent. That stretch will cease with Wednesday night's game at in-state rival North Carolina.
The Demon Deacons were held to four field goals in the last 4 1/2 minutes, with two of those coming after trailing 63-55 with less than 10 seconds to play.
Wake Forest had pulled even with eight minutes left. The Hokies never fell behind down the stretch, but they couldn't pull away either.
Cattoor made a pair of baskets, the second coming after Massoud's 3-pointer for Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons then received a trey from Williamson to close the gap to 57-55 with 1:14 to play. Radford countered with two free throws.
Radford completed the next defensive stand with a rebound, then went to the free-throw line and sank two more foul shots at the 16-second mark. Radford ended up 8-for-9 on free throws after making two more with 10 seconds left.
Virginia Tech led 29-23 at halftime, helped on the defensive end by nine blocked shots. The Hokies didn't block any shots in the second half, while Wake Forest was without a rejection at the defensive end for the entire game.
Radford has led Virginia Tech in scoring in consecutive games.
This was Virginia Tech's second true road game, the other a two-point loss at Louisville.
