EUGENE, Ore. -- Dana Altman celebrated his new contract with a victory.
Fifth-ranked Oregon opened its seventh season under Altman with a 91-77 victory over Army on Friday night at Matthew Knight Arena. Earlier in the day, Altman signed a new seven-year, $18 million contract.
"My wife and I love it here and we want to be here," Altman said. "I am appreciative of the University and (athletic director) Rob (Mullens) and our president for extending us and wanting us here. I want to be here, I want to coach and I love going to work. We feel very fortunate and people here in Eugene and across the state have been good to us."
Guard Tyler Dorsey led the Ducks with 21 points, and center Chris Boucher and forward Jordan Bell each added 14 points and eight rebounds as Oregon played without all-conference junior forward Dillon Brooks, who is expected to miss the first few weeks of the season with a foot injury.
Bell also had six blocked shots as the Ducks tied the school record with 13 blocks.
Oregon heads to Baylor for its next game on Tuesday.
"We knew we had some super tough games from the jump this year," Bell said. "We won't have the home crowd to help us win. We have been practicing hard and working on our rebounding."
Oregon earned its highest preseason ranking ever this season, but Altman said the Ducks are not playing at that level right now.
"I have been telling them for the last three weeks how much work we have to do," he said. "We have to get back to work and get a lot done before Tuesday."
Forward Kennedy Edwards led Army with 17 points.
Oregon opened the season with four-point plays from Dorsey and Boucher before Dorsey added another three-pointer to put the Ducks ahead 11-5. Army scored five straight points to get within 11-10 before center Kavell Bigby-Williams scored Oregon's next seven points to put the Ducks ahead 18-11 and forward Keith Smith followed with a basket to make it 20-11.
Army closed within 22-15 before forward Roman Sorkin made a three-pointer. Guard Payton Pritchard and Dorsey each added two free throws before Pritchard added a 3-pointer to put the Ducks up 32-15.
Oregon stretched the lead to 47-27 on a dunk by Boucher before taking a 49-31 lead at halftime.
The Black Knights opened the second half with a 12-4 run capped by three-pointers from forward Luke Morrison and guard Jordan Fox to cut the lead to 53-43 with 15:50 left to play.
Bell made a free throw for Oregon and Sorkin added a 3-pointer. Dorsey added a jumper and a 3-pointer to stretch the lead back to 62-45.
Army scored five straight points to get within 73-64 on a jumper by forward Mac Hoffman before Oregon guard Casey Benson made two free throws and Pritchard scored to push the Ducks ahead 77-64 with 6:21 left.
Pritchard finished with 15 points and Sorkin had 12 as the Ducks shot 45 percent from the field and outrebounded Army 42-30.
Matt Wilson added 10 points for the Black Knights, who shot 39.4 percent from the field.
