Arkansas 56, Vanderbilt 33: Junior forward Marshawn Powell scored 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting and the host Razorbacks suffocated the Commodores defensively to earn their first Southeastern Conference win.
Arkansas (10-5, 1-1 SEC) forced 25 turnovers while holding Vanderbilt (6-8, 0-2) to a season low-tying point total. The Commodores, who also scored 33 in a loss to Marist in November, entered Saturday averaging 59.5 points.
Sophomore guard BJ Young added 14 points for Arkansas, which notched its third straight win over Vanderbilt.
Arkansas led 21-11 after a half in which the Commodores made just 3-of-15 shots. Sheldon Jeter finished with eight points to lead Vanderbilt, and no Commodores starter scored more than five.
Both teams struggled mightily from the 3-point line. The Commodores hit 2-of-15 beyond the arc while the Razorbacks shot just 3-for-18.
