No. 2 Duke 90, Temple 67: Mason Plumlee turned in his sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds as the Blue Devils handed the Owls their worst loss in nearly three years.
Ryan Kelly posted his third career double-double with 14 points and 10 boards while Seth Curry returned from a one-game absence and drained five 3-pointers to lead all scorers with 23 points for Duke (9-0), which avenged an upset loss to Temple (6-1) last season.
Unlike 2011, the Blue Devils – who improved to 20-1 all-time in East Rutherford, New Jersey – were never seriously challenged after leading by as many as 17 points late in the first half.
Temple could not get any closer than 10 points the rest of the way and Duke held the Owls scoreless for a 5:50 stretch late in the second to build a 26-point lead in the final minute of the contest. Duke finished 12-of-20 from 3-point range and outscored Temple by 21 points at the foul line.
Freshman Quenton DeCosey scored a team-high 13 points and was the only player to finish in double figures for the Owls, who were dealt their largest margin of defeat since losing to Kansas 84-52 on Jan. 2, 2010.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Duke improved to 5-0 in neutral-site games this year and 41-4 over the last five seasons. … Temple, which finished just 1-of-4 from the foul line, did not shoot its first free throw of the game until the 8:49 mark of the second half, when Jake O’Brien completed a three-point play. … Plumlee’s double-double was his third straight and the 24th of his career.
