Darryl Bryant scored a team-high 15 points, and John Flowers and Kevin Jones posted double-doubles to lift West Virginia over host Rutgers, 65-54, on Sunday.
Flowers had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Jones delivered 12 and 11, and the Mountaineers (18-10, 9-7 Big East) closed on a 12-2 run to put away the pesky Scarlet Knights.
Mike Coburn scored a game-high 20 points and Dane Miller added 11 points and six boards for Rutgers (13-15, 4-12), which hit just 1 of 13 tries from beyond the arc.
WVU moved into a four-way tie with Connecticut, Villanova and Cincinnati in the middle of the Big East. West Virginia hosts the Huskies on Wednesday.
Bryant bested his season average (10.8) in the first half alone, with 11 points and three assists to push West Virginia out to a 25-22 halftime lead.
The Scarlet Knights were coming off their worst offensive effort in four years, a 55-37 home loss to Louisville on Tuesday. But despite a 13-0 run that gave the Mountaineers a 50-42 cushion Sunday, Rutgers clawed back and pulled to within one a couple of times down the stretch.
