Joevan Catron finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Oregon pulled away late for a 68-49 victory over Portland State on Sunday afternoon in Eugene, Ore.
The Ducks (5-3) led by just three, 44-41, after the Vikings’ Melvin Jones hit a three-pointer with 10:04 remaining in the contest, but a 9-0 run, capped by Catron’s layup at the 6:59 mark, provided a double-digit margin that would last the rest of the way.
Oregon held Portland State to 16-of-54 (29.6 percent) shooting on the day and allowed the Vikings just three 3-pointers on 16 attempts. The Ducks also forced 17 turnovers, with Garrett Sim and Jay-R Strowbridge each contributing three steals.
Sim added 14 points for Oregon, while Strowbridge finished with 11. Chris Harriel led Portland State (4-2) with 12 points and nine rebounds.
