Dereck Rodriguez pitched three-hit ball over seven innings, Evan Longoria drove in four runs and the San Francisco Giants cruised past the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-0 on Thursday night in Phoenix.
Rodriguez (5-6), called up from Triple-A Sacramento earlier in the day, retired the first 11 batters before Eduardo Escobar singled softly to right field in the fourth. The 27-year-old Rodriguez, who had been sent down multiple times this season due to ineffectiveness, struck out four and walked one.
Longoria staked the Giants to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a bases-loaded single and added a two-run homer in the fifth inning off Arizona starter Alex Young (4-3). Longoria went 3-for-5.
Austin Slater reached base five times for the Giants -- two singles, a double and two walks. He wrapped up the scoring with an RBI single in the eighth inning. Donovan Solano and Buster Posey each added two hits.
Young gave up five runs and eight hits in five innings, striking out two and walking two.
Arizona's three hits were all two-out singles, and the Diamondbacks failed to get a runner to second base.
Sam Coonrod and Fernando Abad -- making his San Francisco debut and pitching in the majors for the first time since the end of the 2017 season -- each pitched a perfect inning of relief.
San Francisco's first four batters reached base, including Posey, whose slow roller down the third-base line stayed fair, eventually hitting the bag, to load the bases. Longoria followed with a single past diving third baseman Jake Lamb to drive in Solano and Slater.
The Giants also bunched their hits in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. With one out, Slater doubled, Posey doubled and Longoria pulled an outside changeup over the fence in left for his 15th home run of the season.
Arizona reliever Jon Duplantier, recalled from Triple-A Reno on Thursday, walked the first batter he faced in the sixth -- Joey Rickard -- before Brandon Belt made it 6-0 with a double off the base of the center field wall.
D-backs' All-Star second baseman/centerfielder Ketel Marte was given the night off to rest.
