Matt Harvey pitched seven strong innings and Albert Pujols passed another legend as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Royals 7-3 Sunday in Kansas City, Mo.

Harvey (1-2) gave up just one run on two hits, and the run scored without the benefit of a hit. It was Harvey's longest outing since Aug. 11, 2018, when he pitched seven innings against Arizona in a no-decision.

For the second time in three games, Pujols passed a baseball icon in a career statistic. With a two-run double in the first, Pujols passed Barry Bonds for third place all time with 1,997 RBIs. Pujols had moved into fourth on Friday, passing Lou Gehrig. He passed Babe Ruth on April 20.

It was the first rubber game of the season for Kansas City. The Royals have won only two series, and won the first two games in each of those series.

Homer Bailey (2-3) struggled early, surrendering all six hits and four runs to the first 13 batters he faced. He retired the last 10, but the Royals couldn't mount much offense against Harvey.

The Angels loaded the bases with one out in the first. Pujols' double slipped just under the glove of third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez. Tommy La Stella drove in the Angels' third run with a groundout.

The Angels got another run in the third. Mike Trout led off with a single, went to second on a flyout and took third on his fourth stolen base of the season. He scored on Andrelton Simmons' RBI single.

The Royals got a run without the benefit of a hit in the fourth. Alex Gordon reached base on a wild pitch on strike three to lead off the inning. Hunter Dozier followed with a walk and Gordon moved to third on a flyout to right. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Jorge Soler.

The Royals scored one run in the eighth inning off Ty Buttrey on a Dozier RBI single. But Justin Bour's three-run home run in the ninth ended any remaining drama. The Royals added a run in the ninth on a wild pitch by Hansel Robles.
