Padres 3, Braves 0: Casey Kelly pitched six scoreless innings in his major league debut and Yasmani Grandal drove in all three runs as host San Diego won its season-best eighth straight contest.
Kelly (1-0) was one of the key components in the deal in which the Padres traded All-Star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez to the Boston Red Sox following the 2010 season. He allowed three hits and two walks while striking out four.
Carlos Quentin began the San Diego second inning with a walk and Grandal followed with a two-run line shot into the left-field bleachers off Atlanta starter Paul Maholm (11-9). Grandal added a run-scoring single in the eighth.
Tommy Layne pitched a perfect seventh, Dale Thayer worked a hitless eighth and Luke Gregerson induced Chipper Jones to hit into game-ending double play for his second save in two days after not having any prior to Sunday.
Logan Forsythe and Jesus Guzman joined Grandal in recording two hits for San Diego, which is 16-9 in August and 41-30 since June 9.
Maholm allowed two runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked one.
